Resources and Support Groups for Isolated Elderly and Caregivers
Our staff social worker leads weekly support groups for seniors dealing with the challenges of aging, including illness and loss. Seniors can meet in a supportive space to share feelings and frustrations and explore coping strategies together.
We also offer a support group for caregivers of persons with memory loss primarily due to Alzheimer’s Disease. Caregivers share advice, insights, and frustrations in a safe and supportive environment, helping each other to identify effective coping strategies for the unique challenges of caring for a loved one with memory loss. This group currently meets on Fridays at 10:45 AM and 11:30 AM.
In addition, our social worker offers individualized assistance, providing supportive counseling to identify root causes and then offering resources and referrals to address the issue. For example, she can assist with enrollment in benefits and entitlements like Medicaid and rent subsidies, or connect clients to services like legal aid, home-delivered meals, mental health counseling, and more.
