“Working with my counselor, I remember just thinking to myself, ‘she’s gotten to the other side’ – a place that was so far for me. I couldn’t even imagine not being in the state that I was in. I thought this was the rest of my life – agony and pain and darkness. Seeing that she was well enough to help me through it… that right there was a huge eye opener for me. I vaguely thought to myself, ‘I wonder if I’ll ever be in a place where I’m not only okay, but okay enough to help someone else going through this.’”
PLSP Client and Peer Counselor
PLSP utilizes professionally-trained volunteers to provide telephone counseling and to facilitate in-person and virtual support groups. All of our volunteers have experienced a loss themselves, so they can speak from experience to grieving parents, and at the same time continue their own healing process through service to others. Last year the program served more than 130 families.
