Magda Schaler-Haynes, JD, MPH
Magda Schaler-Haynes, JD, MPH is Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. Her work focuses on using law to advance evidence-based public health policy spanning diverse matters including reproductive and maternal health, healthcare professional licensure, health insurance reform, anti-discrimination initiatives, and emergency preparedness. A recognized expert in state health policy, she served as Senior Advisor at the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General; as Director of Policy and Strategic Planning at the New Jersey Department of Health; as Senior Health Policy Advisor at the New York State Insurance Department, as a consultant to the Center for Reproductive Rights, and recently served as a member of New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill’s Healthcare Transition Action Team. Schaler-Haynes began her career as an associate in the Health Care Department at the Proskauer firm in New York. She holds a BA from Brandeis University, and JD and MPH degrees from Columbia University. Schaler-Haynes served as a member of Columbia University’s Task Force on Antisemitism from 2023 to 2025.
