Our musical theatre Journey will begin by looking at the origins of the American musical, our own art form. There will be a little historical background, some discussion, and a LOT of singing! We’ll look at the “Boy Meets Girl” Musicals of the 1920s and 30s (Rodgers and Hart, Berlin, Kern, Porter), and the two classics that defined what would be the Modern American Musical: SHOW BOAT and OKLAHOMA! We’ll work on solos and scenes from composers/lyricists: Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, Frank Loesser, Stephen Sondheim, and Stephen Schwartz. SO, ON WITH THE SHOW!
